Synopsis

This theatrical dance adaptation of Barry Hines' novel A Kestral for a Knave is by choreographer Jonathan Watkins with original music by Alex Baranowski and features a professional cast, 20 young local dancers, physical theatre and puppetry.

Isolated at home and school, Billy Caspar is shaped by two contrasting worlds: industrial, working class Barnsley and the natural landscape that surrounds his Yorkshire home. When he befriends a wild kestrel hawk, his whole life opens up as his relationship with the bird of prey unleashes his imagination, inspiring him to reach for the sky.

Kes is part of Yorkshire Festival 2014, the 100-day festival to precede the Grand Depart of Le Tour.
